Amanda Oliveira Salzwedel joined the lab in 2018 after completing a PhD in Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Pharmacology. She also completed her DVM at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil, and a MS in Infectious diseases at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine. Her research focus is in studying immunotherapy and stroma targeting approaches to treat pancreatic cancer. Her long term goal is to develop efficient therapies that would combine the direct cytotoxic effect of chemotherapy drugs with the immunostilumatory effects of immuno-specific drugs resulting in therapeutic protocols that can reduce tumor burden, reduce treatment toxicity, and improve long-term survival of patients. She is also interested in studying the effects of Irreversible Electroration (IRE) in the stimulation of anti-tumor immune response, and reduction of tumor burden in pre-clinical models. Amanda likes cycling, going to the gym, sunny places, happy hours, and spending time with her dogs, family, and friends.
